Using a combination of motor control exercises, joint stability exercises, stretching and muscle release techniques, Doug devises exercise solutions for pain. During the sessions Doug aims to educate his clients in pain and its causes with a view to avoiding future problems. A program is produced for ongoing maintenance / prevention that can be done at home with minimal equipment.

Doug has spent the last 20 years working in a clinical environment supporting the work of Chiropractors, Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, and Massage Therapists. He comes from a background in endurance sports and is trained in clinical Pilates, personal training, and functional movement training.

Bowen Therapy

Bowen Therapy (also known as The Bowen Technique) is a drug free, non-intrusive hands-on remedial therapy which can be administered through light clothing, with the client sitting, standing or lying. Using very gentle pressure, the therapist places thumbs and fingers on precise points of the body to perform unique rolling-type moves which stimulate the muscles and soft tissue of the body. There is no manipulation or adjustment of hard tissue and no force is used. The experience is gentle, subtle and relaxing.

It is believed that the Bowen Therapy prompts the body to reset, repair and balance itself.  Clients report the experience of pain relief, improvement of function and recovery of energy.

Bowen has a remarkable record of success with clients affected by an astonishingly wide range of problems - often when nothing else has helped.  It helps the body’s system rebalance and promotes healing.  Bowen is suitable for men, women and children of all ages.

Common presentations for treatment include (but are not limited to):

  • Most commonly lower back pain
  • Shoulder pain and restriction
  • Hip Issues
  • Knee problems
  • Neck issues
  • Migraine and headaches
  • Sleep issues
  • Hayfever and chronic sinus congestion

Both acute (short term) and chronic (longer term) problems are addressed.  Usually acute issues can be resolved within 1-2 sessions, whereas longer term complaints may take longer (3-6 sessions), with some people requiring regular 'maintenance' sessions.

You will usually know within 3 appointments if Bowen can help you.

Chiropody / Podiatry

Chiropody, now also known as Podiatry, is a science that deals with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disorders, diseases, and deformities of the human feet.

A wide range of conditions can be treated:

  • Nail surgery
  • Ingrown toenails
  • Hard foot skin
  • Cracked heels
  • Fungal diseases
  • Athlete’s foot
  • Bunions, corns and calluses

Chiropractors are neuromuscular-skeletal specialists and as such, assess, diagnose and treat conditions of the joints, muscles and nervous system. The majority of conditions are the result of mechanical stresses applied to the body through normal activities of daily living, poor posture and progressive wear and tear as the body naturally ages.

Homeopathy is a complete system of natural medicine, treating the person as a whole, with the focus of treatment on the person and how they are expressing their symptoms, rather than on the specific disease or complaint itself. Homeopathy is a natural, safe, gentle and effective system of medicine that can be used to treat everyone including babies, children, pregnant women and the elderly.  Homeopathic medicines, known as remedies, help to stimulate the body’s own natural healing mechanism, and are given based on the persons’ unique individual needs. Remedies are safe, non-toxic, rarely produce unwanted effects, can be used alongside other treatments, and will not interfere with conventional medications.

Homeopathy is for you...

  • If you want to be treated as a unique and special individual
  • If other forms of treatment haven’t helped
  • If you suffer from a recurring or chronic condition which isn’t resolving from repeated courses of medication
  • If you are looking for health enhancing methods of preventing disease and creating greater vitality
  • If you want to feel more balanced physically, mentally and emotionally
  • If you want to be able to tell your own story

Humanistic Counselling

Humanistic Counselling emphasises the need for empathy in the counselling relationship. The aim is to assist the client to develop a stronger, healthier sense of self, as well as uncovering and understanding their feelings to help them gain a sense of meaning to their world.

Humanistic Counselling encompasses several counselling methods. Emma uses Person Centred theory with elements of Transactional Analysis (TA) and Gestalt and also uses various aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

Musculoskeletal Podiatry

A musculoskeletal podiatrist is a health care that specialises in the foot, ankle and lower limb. The therapist will consider the internal interactions of the lower limb and the foot as well as the external influences e.g. footwear.

An assessment will look at the local anatomy including the muscles, tendons, ligaments and skeletal bones of the foot and lower limbs. If it is necessary a gait analysis will be carried out as well as a postural assessment.

A wide range of conditions can be treated:

  • Hip and knee pain
  • Foot and ankle pain
  • Fallen arches
  • Heel pain (plantar fasciitis)
  • Achilles tendon pain
  • Shin pain
  • Cramps
  • Overuse injuries

Exercises may need to be initiated to help treat some conditions though orthotics may also need to be prescribed for short and long term management. A change of footwear may be required not only to improve the condition but also to accommodate the orthotic.
