Margins In Mind – ‘Psychological Support with a Difference’

Mark moved to Kent in 2003 and has decades of experience providing psychological support to individuals and teams. Mark is one of a few dual registered Sport and Exercise Psychologists and Counsellors in the UK, offering a unique blend of support to enhance your holistic psychological growth. If you like, he works on the hyphen between performance and wellbeing, drawing on his experiences in both domains to help you achieve the margins that matter, and find what matters in the margins.

Mark’s practice has historically been combined with a lecturing role, teaching and researching Sport Psychology. His research has informed the provision of psychological support in Canadian Sport, the development of a number of international position statements on mental health, and the provision of a psychological support in professional academy footballers. Mark believes that performance is just one facet of feeling fully alive, and so he draws upon his experience of being a British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy registered Integrative Counsellor to support holistic psychological growth, seeing not “issues” but the person’s or team’s capacity for growth and development. These practices and principles underpin his current work with a Blue Light service, alongside running his own private practice.

When not working Mark appreciates the benefits of living between Canterbury and Whitstable, enjoying woodland walks, outdoor swimming and the presence of loved ones. Cooking, crafting and personal ‘athletic’ challenges also bring Mark alive. In recent years he has completed a half marathon, the Great North Swim and the Scottish Coast to Coast
